Padua Prison Bakery

A laboratory that is also a school. Our master craftsmen transmit trade secrets to students.
This is the only patisserie shop located in an Italian prison, the house of imprisonment "Two Palaces" in Padua.
A small but true sign that, with a real job, you can start over again. Always.

IN THE JAIL SINCE 2005

IN THE JAIL SINCE 2005

The Patisserie of the Prison of Padua has operated in the House of Imprisonment Due Palazzi since 2005. Inmates churn and knead Panettone, and other handmade products of the highest quality. It is without a doubt our most popular prison production, thanks to the numerous awards we have received and to the participation in some of the most important sector exhibitions.

MANY LABORATORIES BEHIND BARS

MANY LABORATORIES BEHIND BARS

The patisserie is just one of several activities through which Giotto's workshop launches prisoners into employment. The following activities are also active inside the House of imprisonment of Padua: luggage assembly for Valigeria Roncato (leather goods factory), the bicycle assembly workshop for Esperia, the call centre on behalf of the provider Illumia and for booking specialist visits, and the assembly and programming of business keys for digital signatures.

WORK REDUCES RECIDIVISM

WORK REDUCES RECIDIVISM

Recidivism drops to about 1% for inmates involved in Consortium work compared with a national official average of nearly 90%. The reduction of recidivism implies very large economic and social benefits for the whole community. To date, each inmate costs the state about 250 Euros per day. If recidivism in Italy were knocked down by just 1% this would result in savings amounting to about 50 million euro per year.
